Angel Heart
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Known to her handlers as 'Glass Heart,' teenage assassin Xiang-Ying is so efficient at her job that she seems barely human — until she tries to end her own life and wakes up with someone else's heart beating in her chest. That heart belonged to Kaori Makimura, the deceased partner of Ryo Saeba, Tokyo's legendary underground fixer known as City Hunter. Now Xiang-Ying keeps dreaming Kaori's memories, and those dreams pull her halfway across the world to Shinjuku, Japan, looking for answers she can't even fully articulate yet. What follows is part mystery, part identity crisis, and part reluctant family-building between a burned-out vigilante and a girl trying to figure out who she is when everything she was trained to be no longer fits. The show runs 50 episodes and takes its time letting that tension breathe, which works in its favor — the action sequences are grounded, and the emotional beats actually land. If you liked City Hunter, this is set in a parallel universe using the same characters, so it works as a standalone without requiring homework. If Gunslinger Girl or Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom resonated with you — stories about young women weaponized by institutions, slowly reclaiming something human — Angel Heart covers similar ground with a warmer, more hopeful tone underneath the gunfire. It's mysterious and sometimes quietly romantic in a way that sneaks up on you.
