"Adventures of the Monkey King" attempted a modern reimagining of the classic character Goku. Instead of the earnest student familiar to audiences, this version depicted Goku as a very naughty modern boy. This drastic character shift, coupled with the inclusion of bad language, proved to be a significant misstep. The show quickly faced intense criticism from parents and the PTA, who voiced strong objections to the inappropriate language. Ultimately, the negative reception was so overwhelming that the anime was forced to cease production and was removed from broadcast shortly after its initial release. The show's premise, intended to be a fresh take, instead resulted in its swift demise.
