Action Monster Big Movie
Oshimeter
Synopsis
As a monster movie director, Meng Qi's career is circling the drain. The genre he loves is dying, audiences have moved on, and he's starting to wonder if he should too. Then an actual demon girl named Liya shows up in his life, which is the kind of problem most filmmakers would run from — but Meng Qi sees a once-in-a-lifetime casting opportunity. Together, they set out to make a demon-themed movie using Liya's very real supernatural connections. The catch is that the deeper they get into production, the more Meng Qi realizes the other world isn't just material for his script. It's connected to him personally, in ways he didn't see coming. The vibe here is comedic with a slow-burn mystery underneath. You've got a guy who's essentially directing a movie with a real monster as his lead actress, which creates this fun tension between his creative ambitions and the increasingly weird situation he's gotten himself into. The dynamic between Meng Qi and Liya carries a lot of the humor — he's treating everything like a filmmaking challenge while she's navigating the human world on her own terms. If you've been watching stuff like Zhimou Jiazu or Jiyi Guanli Ju and you're into Chinese ONAs that mix supernatural elements with grounded character stories, this one fits that lane. It's a HuaMei Animation production that leans into its premise without overthinking it. Worth checking out if you want something light with a thread of mystery pulling you forward.
