A Record of Mortal's Journey to Immortality: Director's Cut
Oshimeter
Synopsis
No special talent, no bloodline power, no destiny written in the stars — Han Li is just a village kid who wants to survive. He joins a minor martial arts sect as an unofficial disciple — basically the bottom rung of an already unremarkable ladder — and starts the long, grinding climb toward immortality. This ONA is a director's cut of the third season of Fanren Xiu Xian Zhuan, condensed into 2 episodes by Original Force and Wonder Cat Animation, and it leans hard into the cultivation fantasy setting that made the web novel so popular. The appeal here is the world-building: a Taoist-rooted cultivation system where progress feels earned, not handed out. Han Li doesn't power up because he's secretly chosen. He powers up because he refuses to quit, which honestly makes every small victory hit harder than most protagonists' big ones. The historical fantasy backdrop is detailed and atmospheric, with sect politics, rival disciples, and the constant tension of someone ordinary trying to carve out space in a world that rewards the gifted. If you've watched Noble Aspirations or Love and Redemption and wanted something with a more grounded protagonist, this scratches that itch. Fans of Tian Wu Ji will also find the cultivation mechanics familiar but deeper. It's action-packed when it needs to be, but the real draw is watching an underdog work the system one careful step at a time.
