A Couple of Cuckoos
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Having spent his whole life studying hard, ranking at the top of his class, and generally being the model serious student, Nagi Umino seems like he has everything figured out. Erika Amano is a social media influencer with millions of followers. These two have absolutely nothing in common — except that they were swapped at birth, and now their parents want them to get engaged to tie both families together. Neither of them asked for this, and neither of them wants it. But they end up living under the same roof anyway, because parents in anime romcoms are basically unstoppable forces of nature. The setup is ridiculous, and the show knows it. What keeps things interesting is the character dynamics — Nagi already has a crush on his classmate Hiro Segawa, his not-by-blood sister Sachi has her own complicated feelings, and Erika is way more layered than her influencer persona suggests. It's a 24-episode TV series that leans into the messy love polygon without taking itself too seriously. The tone stays comedic and light, with enough romantic tension to keep you clicking next episode. If you liked the fake relationship setup in Nisekoi or the forced cohabitation energy of Toradora, this is in that same neighborhood. It also shares DNA with Love and Lies in the whole arranged-partner-you-didn't-choose department. The animation from Shin-Ei and SynergySP is clean, the character designs are sharp, and it moves at a comfortable pace. Nothing groundbreaking, but genuinely fun if you're in the mood for a harem romcom with a weird premise.
