86 Eighty-Six Part 2
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Against all odds, Shin Nouzen and his squad survived what was meant to be a suicide mission. Now, in Part 2 of this 12-episode TV series, they're living in the Federal Republic of Giad, given citizenship, freedom, and a chance at a normal life. The problem is, none of them know how to stop fighting. They've been soldiers since childhood, treated as subhuman by the Republic of San Magnolia, and peace feels more foreign than any battlefield. So they volunteer for combat again, joining the Federacy's Nordlicht Squadron. Meanwhile, back in San Magnolia, Lena Milizé keeps commanding new squads of Eighty-Six soldiers, knowing the system that uses them is rotten but refusing to look away. The emotional core here is what makes this hit different — it's less about the mecha battles (though A-1 Pictures makes those look incredible) and more about kids who've internalized trauma so deeply they can't imagine a life without war. Hiroyuki Sawano's soundtrack does the heavy lifting in the quieter scenes, and there are a lot of those. If you liked the way Iron-Blooded Orphans handled child soldiers, or if Code Geass hooked you with its political layering, this covers similar ground but with a more grounded, melancholic tone. Fans of Aldnoah.Zero's military sci-fi setup will find familiar territory too, just with stronger character writing. It's a slow burn in places, but the payoff is worth sitting with.
