Lan Fan's horrified reaction to his bizarre aspirations highlights the disconnect between Ling's internal world and external reality.

Jean Havoc's stoic sacrifice is immediately undermined by Roy Mustang's opportunistic discovery. Mustang threatens to expose Havoc's childhood diary, a weapon more potent than any flame.
