Zukkoke Sannin-gumi no Jitensha Kyoushitsu
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A trio of sixth-graders learn how to ride bikes safely. That's literally the whole premise, and honestly, for what it is, it works. Hachibei is the loud, girl-crazy one who probably ignores traffic signs. Hakase is the glasses-wearing know-it-all who can recite road rules from memory. Mo-chan is the sweet, food-loving kid who just wants everyone to get along. Together they stumble through lessons about proper bicycle usage, road awareness, and not being reckless — the kind of stuff that sounds boring on paper but matters when you're a kid navigating streets for the first time. This is a single OVA from 2016, clocking in at one episode, so it's not asking much of your time. If you grew up with the Zukkoke Sannin-gumi characters from Sore Ike! Zukkoke Sannin-gumi, seeing them in a modern educational short has a certain nostalgic charm. The trio's dynamic — brash kid, smart kid, gentle kid — carries the material even when the subject matter is straightforward. It's in the same lane as other educational shorts like Kansuke-san to Fushigi na Jitensha or Kumo no Ito, where the goal isn't complex storytelling but delivering a clear message through characters kids can relate to. The tone is warm and lighthearted. Nobody's reinventing anything here. But if you have younger kids or just want to revisit these characters for a few minutes, it does exactly what it sets out to do — teach bicycle safety without being preachy about it.
