Yona of the Dawn OVA
Oshimeter
Synopsis
By the time these OVA episodes arrive, Yona's story has already given you a sheltered royal turned warrior-in-training, a fiercely loyal bodyguard in Son Hak, and four Dragon Warriors bound to her by fate. These three OVA episodes take a breath from the main journey and zoom in on the people behind the powers. The first episode drops the group at a hot springs lodge, where a quiet moment between the dragons turns into something heavier when Ki-ja, the White Dragon, is reminded of his complicated relationship with his father — the previous White Dragon. It's one of those scenes that starts as playful teasing and lands somewhere unexpectedly tender. The second episode pulls back the curtain on Zeno, the Yellow Dragon, who's been the most mysterious of the group. Without saying too much, his backstory recontextualizes a lot of what you thought you knew about him. The tone throughout these OVAs is classic Yona — warm banter one minute, gut-punch the next. If you liked the character-driven fantasy of Fushigi Yuugi or the historical sweep of Arslan Senki, this hits a similar nerve. And fans of Saiunkoku Monogatari will recognize that blend of political intrigue and personal stakes, even in a quieter setting. These aren't filler side stories. They're the kind of character work that makes you care more when the real danger comes back around. Three episodes, no fat, all heart.
