📖 SYNOPSIS
Living and writing in solitude, Fuji is a novelist who seems pretty comfortable keeping it that way. Then one rainy night, she finds what looks like a dog sitting outside — except this dog hands her an umbrella. Not fetches. Hands. Naturally, she brings it home.
That's the setup for this 12-episode TV series from Studio Lesprit, adapted from a seinen manga. Fuji names the creature "You," and things get weirder in the best way when she realizes it can communicate through writing. The show never really explains what You is, at least not early on, and honestly that's part of the charm. It's less about the mystery and more about two quiet beings figuring out how to share a space and a life together.
The rain-soaked atmosphere does a lot of heavy lifting here. Every episode feels like curling up with tea on a grey afternoon — the art direction leans into soft, muted tones, and the soundtrack is genuinely calming without being background noise. There's no real conflict driving things forward, just the slow, warm rhythm of daily life between a reserved woman and her strange, thoughtful companion.
If you liked My Roommate is a Cat for the "lonely adult finds unexpected companionship" angle, this hits similar notes. Fans of Barakamon's gentle rural pacing or the cozy oddness of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid will feel right at home too. It's a small, quiet show that doesn't ask much from you except to sit with it for a while.
