White Cat Legend Season 3
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Picture ancient China's most famous detective, Di Renjie, reimagined as a cat. That's the world of White Cat Legend — a series where anthropomorphic animals navigate the cutthroat politics of Empress Wu Zetian's court while solving crimes that blur the line between the supernatural and the very human. Season 3 picks up with Di Renjie being called back to the capital to look into a string of strange incidents rattling the imperial court. Alongside his right-hand man Li Yuanfang and the ever-calculating Empress herself, he starts pulling at threads that connect ghostly happenings to political schemes nobody wants uncovered. The character dynamics here carry a lot of weight — Di Renjie's sharp wit bouncing off Li Yuanfang's earnestness gives the show a comedic rhythm that never undercuts the actual mystery. And when the martial arts sequences kick in, Nice Boat Animation delivers fluid, kinetic action that punches well above what you'd expect from an ONA. The historical setting is genuinely detailed too, weaving in real Chinese mythology without it feeling like set dressing. If you liked the supernatural mystery atmosphere of Mo Dao Zu Shi or the period drama intrigue of Mad Detective Di Renjie but want something with more humor and a unique visual identity, this is worth your time. Two seasons of setup mean the payoffs here hit harder if you start from the beginning.
