Weather Report Girl
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Working as a nobody at a low-rated TV station, Keiko Nakadai sees her fortunes change when she lands the weather segment and decides that what the forecast really needs is a little less clothing. She starts lifting her skirt and flashing the camera on live television, and predictably, the ratings go through the roof. The station suddenly has something people actually want to watch, and Keiko goes from office obscurity to the most talked-about face on local news overnight. The catch is that not everyone at the station is thrilled about this. Colleagues start scheming, rivalries heat up, and Keiko has to navigate a workplace that's half celebrating her and half trying to get rid of her. The two-episode OVA from 1995 keeps things pretty breezy — it's more workplace comedy with adult content than anything heavy. The humor leans into how absurd the whole situation is, and the TV station setting gives it a slightly satirical edge about ratings culture and what people will do to get eyeballs on a screen. If you've seen something like 25-sai no Joshikousei and want something with a lighter, more comedic tone, this scratches a similar itch. It also has faint echoes of Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan in how it pokes at the chaos behind the scenes of broadcast media, minus the existential dread. Short, dumb in a self-aware way, and not pretending to be anything other than what it is.
