Synopsis
Over the course of one summer, two kids become best friends, and then something small—barely worth remembering—pulls them apart. That's basically the setup of Wareware wa Uchuujin, and if it sounds simple, that's kind of the point. Tsubasa is a quiet third-grader who doesn't stand out much. Kyotaro is the kid everyone gravitates toward. They find each other, build that intense childhood bond where your friend's world becomes your world, and then lose it over something that probably shouldn't have mattered. The movie then follows both of them across thirty-plus years, tracing how that one friendship—and its absence—shaped who they became. It's an original film from director Kouhei Kadowaki, produced by Miyu Productions, and it has that slow, reflective energy where you're just sitting with these characters as life happens around them. If you've ever watched Byousoku 5 Centimeter and felt that ache of distance growing between people, or if Anohana hit you with how unresolved childhood stuff can linger into adulthood, this is in that same emotional neighborhood. It's not trying to be dramatic. It's trying to be honest about how friendships form, break, and echo through decades. The kind of movie that's quiet while you're watching it and then won't leave your head for days after.
