Urotsukidoji III: Return of the Overfiend
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When the human, demon, and beast realms smashed together in a catastrophic collision twenty-five years ago, things were supposed to be quiet by now. The Overfiend — a god-tier entity prophesied to eventually rebuild everything — was meant to sleep for a century before being reborn. Instead, he shows up early, and nobody's ready for that. Amano Jyaku, a man-beast warrior who's been keeping watch over this fragile, ravaged world, is now scrambling to figure out what the premature birth means while a new threat called the Lord of Chaos is already positioning itself as the next extinction-level problem. Throw in a power-hungry dictator named Caesar who's decided this is a good moment to conquer what's left of civilization, and a growing population of half-breed demon beasts with unclear allegiances, and you've got a world that feels genuinely unstable in every direction. The 4-episode OVA format keeps things dense and atmospheric — this isn't a slow burn, it moves with real weight. The dark fantasy mythology running through it has that same grimy, oppressive texture fans of Wicked City or Demon Beast Invasion tend to gravitate toward. If you've seen the original Urotsukidoji and want to see where that mythology goes, this continues it without losing the tone. It's horror-fantasy built around collapsing mythologies and desperate people caught between forces way beyond them. Not a comfortable watch, but that's entirely the point.
