Synopsis
All Akane Tooi wants is a normal high school life. That's it. No drama, no weirdness, just a regular first day. She gets about five minutes of that before Jel — a classmate with the energy of a golden retriever on espresso — drags her into something called the "Youth Romance Club." It's exactly as unhinged as it sounds: a school club devoted to chasing down anything that qualifies as "youthful" or "romantic," which in practice means increasingly absurd schemes that Akane has to react to with the exhausted patience of someone who didn't sign up for any of this. She's the straight man in a group that has no straight men, and the comedy leans hard into that dynamic. This is an original movie from Seven Arcs, directed by Mankyū — yes, the person behind PUI PUI Molcar — so the comedic sensibility is sharp and a little off-kilter. There's also a fun meta layer with pop culture references and the fact that Jel's voice actor performs the opening theme as part of VTuber group Strawberry Prince. If you liked the chaotic club energy of Love Tyrant or the way Oreshura plays with romantic tropes mostly to make fun of them, this hits a similar nerve. It's a tight, single-movie comedy that knows exactly what it's doing: throwing a sensible girl into a room full of lovable idiots and watching what happens.
