📖 SYNOPSIS
Strapping on a mask that grants supernatural powers might sound like a pretty sweet deal — until you learn they have a will of their own and a taste for bloodshed. Shuiro no Kamen follows Pelle, a traveling mask merchant who can craft these dangerous artifacts himself. He rolls into a city that feels wrong from the ground up — heavy atmosphere, shady characters, and people using his masks for purposes he never intended. Things get complicated when he meets Sonah, a mysterious girl whose past is tangled up in the city's dark underbelly. The story wastes no time setting up moral gray areas around who deserves power and what happens when the wrong people get their hands on it. The mask-based power system is genuinely interesting — each mask grants different abilities, but there's always a cost, and the masks themselves seem to have agendas. It's a seinen adaptation, so expect the consequences to actually land rather than getting brushed aside. The vibe sits somewhere between the dark fantasy tension of Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen and the artifact-driven battles of Kamen Rider Saber, with a bit of the supernatural mystery you'd find in Hiiro no Kakera. If you're into atmospheric world-building where the power system is as much a threat as the villains, this one's worth keeping on your radar. Studio 100studio is handling the TV series adaptation from the manga, and the setup alone has enough hooks to pull you in.
