The Urotsuki
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Straight from prison to a college campus walks Amano Jyaku, an immortal beast-man with an appetite for trouble that wastes no time making itself known. That setup alone tells you what kind of story this is. But underneath the obvious surface-level chaos, there's actually a mythology worth paying attention to — every few thousand years, the realms of humans, demons, and beast-men collide through the emergence of a being called the Chōjin, and that convergence is happening now. The college Amano wanders into isn't just unlucky geography; it's ground zero for something ancient and genuinely horrifying. An entity called the Ultra God is stirring there, and it's not just dangerous — it's the kind of world-ending threat that makes Amano, himself no stranger to carnage, look almost sympathetic by comparison. This is a 3-episode OVA from 2002, so don't go in expecting a slow burn. It's dark, it's blunt, and the horror elements hit harder than you might expect given the genre mix. The animation leans into atmospheric shadow work that holds up better than a lot of its era. If you've already watched Wicked City or Demon Beast Invasion and want more of that late-night, boundary-pushing supernatural horror from the same era, this fits that shelf. La Blue Girl fans will also recognize the DNA here. Just go in knowing exactly what it is, and it delivers on its own terms.
