The Story of Little Monica
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Little Monica was once a city defined by its culture and arts — the place where Will spent his childhood before leaving as a kid. Now he's back, older, hoping to reconnect with his childhood friend Celia and maybe do some good for the place he came from. The problem is, Little Monica isn't what he remembers. The culture is gone. The city has rotted into something else entirely — a place built on vice, corruption, and temptation at every corner. What he thought would be a homecoming turns into something much more complicated. Celia is there, along with her sisters Tina and Mei, and together they're trying to push back against what the city has become. But the city pushes back harder. This 2-episode OVA from 2002 is adapted from a visual novel, and it carries that DNA — there's actual story here, actual character dynamics, not just setup and payoff in the most obvious sense. The tension between who Will wants to be and what the city keeps offering him is the real engine of the thing. If you've watched something like Discipline or Bible Black and found yourself wishing there was more actual narrative holding it together, this scratches that itch. It's not a perfect production, but for what it is, the moral undertone gives it a bit more weight than you'd expect. The city-as-temptation backdrop is genuinely interesting, and the relationship between Will and Celia has some real warmth underneath everything else going on.
