Synopsis

The instant Li Shi was born, a celestial phenomenon painted a target on his back before he could even walk. Born as the host of a soldier master's remnant soul, every sect in the world wants him — either to use that power or destroy it. His parents bought him time by leading the hunters away, and a guardian named Yuan Chenyang spirited him off to the coastal Linhai City, where they've been hiding as fishermen ever since. Now older and tired of not knowing what happened to his family, Li Shi decides to enter the city's once-every-five-years sect selection, which is basically his only ticket into the world of cultivators and answers. Things get complicated fast when Bai Xiang, a formations master from the Yaozu gate, enters the picture with methods involving spirit absorption that sound about as safe as they are. The mythology here runs deep — this isn't just cultivation battles, it's a world where celestial phenomena shape human lives and sect politics are genuinely tangled. The 12-episode ONA format from HuaDream keeps things tight without dragging. If you're into Chinese fantasy animation like Fenglei Zhen Jiuzhou or The Silver Guardian, this hits a similar space but leans harder into the mythological side. The sect dynamics and power struggles give it a Seven Swordsmen vibe too. It's action-packed but grounded in Li Shi actually wanting something personal — finding his parents — which keeps it from feeling like empty spectacle.
