The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei: He Just Solves All the Mysteries
Oshimeter
Synopsis
The war ended in 1945, but in 1948, its shadows aren't gone. Kanna Kusakabe is a well-meaning high school sophomore who can't stop sticking her nose into other people's problems. When rumors spread that a ghost is cursing students to death, she sneaks into the school at night to investigate — only to find that the 'ghost' is actually her new Japanese teacher, Akihiko Chuuzenji, hiding out with a stash of forbidden books he really doesn't want anyone knowing about. His solution? Spread a rumor that Kanna exorcised the spirit. Now the entire school thinks she's some kind of occult expert, and classmates keep coming to her with supernatural problems she has zero ability to solve. So she keeps dragging Chuuzenji into it, and the thing is — he can actually explain everything. Every curse, every haunting, every unexplainable event gets dismantled by cold logic. The fun is watching how. This 12-episode TV series from 100studio has the cozy mystery-solving rhythm of Hyouka but wrapped in the atmospheric supernatural dread of something like Mononoke or Ghost Hunt. The post-war setting gives everything weight — superstition and trauma bleed into each other in ways that feel grounded even when the mysteries get strange. Chuuzenji and Kanna have a great dynamic: he's this dry, almost irritatingly rational scholar, and she's the one who keeps accidentally creating situations where his knowledge becomes necessary. If you like mysteries where the answer is always human but the question feels genuinely eerie, this one's worth your time.
