Synopsis

The war ended in 1945, but in 1948, its shadows aren't gone. Kanna Kusakabe is a well-meaning high school sophomore who can't stop sticking her nose into other people's problems. When rumors spread that a ghost is cursing students to death, she sneaks into the school at night to investigate — only to find that the 'ghost' is actually her new Japanese teacher, Akihiko Chuuzenji, hiding out with a stash of forbidden books he really doesn't want anyone knowing about. His solution? Spread a rumor that Kanna exorcised the spirit. Now the entire school thinks she's some kind of occult expert, and classmates keep coming to her with supernatural problems she has zero ability to solve. So she keeps dragging Chuuzenji into it, and the thing is — he can actually explain everything. Every curse, every haunting, every unexplainable event gets dismantled by cold logic. The fun is watching how. This 12-episode TV series from 100studio has the cozy mystery-solving rhythm of Hyouka but wrapped in the atmospheric supernatural dread of something like Mononoke or Ghost Hunt. The post-war setting gives everything weight — superstition and trauma bleed into each other in ways that feel grounded even when the mysteries get strange. Chuuzenji and Kanna have a great dynamic: he's this dry, almost irritatingly rational scholar, and she's the one who keeps accidentally creating situations where his knowledge becomes necessary. If you like mysteries where the answer is always human but the question feels genuinely eerie, this one's worth your time.

rumor about the old school staircase where students say the number of steps sometimes becomes 13 instead of the normal count. Because of this strange story, many people believe the staircase is cursed or connected to something supernatural. Kanna becomes curious about the rumor and brings it up to Chuzenji-sensei. As the mystery is investigated, Chuzenji analyzes the situation logically and explains the real reason behind the strange staircase phenomenon, showing once again that the scary rumor comes from misunderstanding rather than an actual supernatural event.

everyone is invited to Enokizu’s old house. They gather there and spend time together eating roasted sweet potatoes, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere compared to the previous mysteries. The episode focuses more on the characters interacting and bonding, showing their everyday side outside of investigating rumors and supernatural stories. It feels more like a calm, cozy moment for the group rather than a serious mystery.

the “ghost” rumor in the old building turns out to be one of Kanna’s classmates. People thought they were seeing a ghost because the figure kept appearing in the abandoned building and disappearing quickly, which made the situation look supernatural. But when Chuzenji-sensei and the others investigate, they realize it’s actually a student who had been going there, which created the misunderstanding. The episode again shows how rumors and incomplete information can easily turn an ordinary situation into a ghost story.
