Synopsis

Long before science declared them obsolete, witches guided humanity with their magic — and a human kid named Adonis grew up under the care of a witch named Chloe, not yet knowing how brutal his future will become. Then the Redia Empire decided science made witches obsolete and launched a full-scale extermination campaign. You can probably guess where this is going — Adonis watches Chloe get executed, and what comes next is a revenge story soaked in blood and fury. This 12-episode TV series from 2023 doesn't waste time setting up its darkness. By the end of the first episode, you already understand exactly what kind of show this is and what Adonis is willing to become to make the empire pay. The world-building blends dark fantasy with sci-fi in a way that feels fresh — think magic versus military-industrial complex rather than the usual swords-and-sorcery setup. The action gets brutal, and the gore tag is well-earned, so fair warning there. Underneath the violence, though, there's a genuine exploration of what happens when progress is used as an excuse to destroy what came before. If you liked the rage-fueled protagonist energy of Attack on Titan or the unforgiving tone of Akame ga Kill, this hits similar notes. It also shares some DNA with The Rising of the Shield Hero in how it handles a protagonist whose trust in the world gets shattered early and completely. It's not subtle, but it commits fully to its premise, and sometimes that's exactly what you want.

I think this show might have just run out of budget, now the animation is way worse and they are using extended flashback scenes. Also I don't understand the final shift again, who is this for? Who is the intended audience?

Apart from the general enshitificatipn of the anime, the story of the town is really good and makes me believe that something must have happened to turn this into a shit fest.

I have never seen such a tonal shift before this anime. This show has completely stopped making sense, it's like they switched writers. Why is there romance and comedy. Why isn't he using his magic?
