๐ SYNOPSIS
As the adopted son of an aristocratic family, Shi Mu might seem like he landed a decent deal โ until you realize it means everyone around him sees him as lesser. In a world where martial prowess basically determines your worth as a human being, he's forced onto the warrior's path โ not out of ambition, but to uncover the truth behind his origins and prove he's more than someone else's charity case. The setting is Fengcheng, a city split between four martial halls, each tied to different sects with their own agendas and power plays. Shi Mu gets caught up in that web pretty quickly, and the early episodes do a solid job of showing how the sect politics work without drowning you in exposition. There's a bloodline mystery simmering underneath everything that gives the story real forward momentum. BYMENT put together some genuinely sharp action sequences here โ the martial arts choreography feels weighty and grounded in a way that complements the historical setting rather than just being flashy for its own sake. If you're into the sect rivalry dynamics of Mo Dao Zu Shi or the theatrical martial arts energy of Thunderbolt Fantasy, this scratches a similar itch but leans harder into the underdog warrior angle. It's a 26-episode ONA based on a web novel, and the pacing across the first few episodes suggests they're not rushing through the source material. Worth picking up if you've been looking for a donghua with actual narrative structure behind its fight scenes.
