As the heiress to one of the biggest conglomerates in Japan, Reiko Houshou spends her days working as a rookie detective at the Kunitachi Police Department — where nobody knows she's rich. Her boss, Kazamatsuri, is also secretly a wealthy heir, and he's about as useful in an investigation as you'd expect from a guy who got the job through connections. When Reiko hits a wall on a case involving her old college friends, her butler Kageyama casually drops the solution over dinner like it's nothing. That's basically the premise: rich girl solves crimes, but it's actually her sharp-tongued butler doing the heavy lifting from the sidelines. The comedy here comes from the class dynamics and the contrast between Reiko's double life — polished heiress by night, overworked detective by day — and Kageyama's deadpan brilliance. He's respectful in that traditional butler way, but he's also clearly a little tired of his employer missing the obvious clues. It's a 12-episode TV series from Madhouse based on a popular novel, and the tone stays light and breezy throughout, never getting too heavy with its mysteries. If you liked The Millionaire Detective Balance: Unlimited for the wealthy-detective angle but wanted something more puzzle-focused, this scratches that itch.
