The Dangers in My Heart
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A self-proclaimed middle school edgelord, Kyoutarou Ichikawa spends his days fantasizing about murdering his classmate Anna Yamada. That's his whole deal — he reads morbid books in the library, thinks he's the dangerous loner protagonist of some thriller, and mentally plots Yamada's demise. There's just one problem: Yamada keeps showing up in the library too, and she's kind of a lovable weirdo. She sneaks snacks, makes a mess, and is way less put-together than her tall, model-pretty exterior suggests. Ichikawa's dark fantasies quietly start losing ground to something he's not ready to name. This 12-episode TV series from Shin-Ei Animation is a slow-burn romance disguised as a comedy about a kid who thinks he's unhinged. The real hook is how genuinely well it handles the shift from Ichikawa's cringey self-image to actual emotional vulnerability. You watch him slowly realize that his "dangerous heart" is just a crush, and it's both funny and weirdly touching. Yamada isn't a shallow love interest either — she's got her own insecurities and quirks that come through in small, well-observed moments. If you liked the awkward tenderness of Horimiya or the slow relationship building in Komi Can't Communicate, this hits a similar sweet spot. It's also got some of that My Little Monster energy where the "scary" lead is really just emotionally stunted. Based on a shounen manga, it nails that middle school atmosphere — everything feels huge when you're thirteen, and the show respects that without making fun of it.
