Tanaka-kun is Always Listless
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Nobody has elevated laziness to an art form quite like Tanaka. This high schooler falls asleep everywhere — in class, in hallways, on benches — and his entire philosophy revolves around conserving energy and avoiding anything that might disrupt his peaceful existence. His best friend Oota, a tall and patient guy, literally carries him around when Tanaka can't be bothered to walk. That's the dynamic, and it somehow never stops being funny. This 12-episode TV series from SILVER LINK. is a slice of life that leans hard into its iyashikei roots. The humor comes from Tanaka's commitment to doing absolutely nothing while the world keeps pulling him into things. Miyano, a tiny ball of energy, decides she wants to learn the ways of listlessness from him. Shiraishi, a classmate who seems to have her life together, keeps finding reasons to be around him. Every character orbits Tanaka's black hole of lethargy, and the contrast is where the comedy lives. The animation is clean and minimalist in a way that actually matches the vibe — soft colors, gentle pacing, a soundtrack that feels like a warm afternoon nap. If you liked the quiet observational humor of Tonari no Seki-kun or the way Hyouka made low-energy characters genuinely compelling, this hits a similar note. It's closer to Nichijou in spirit, just dialed way down in intensity. Perfect for when you want something wholesome that asks nothing of you, which is exactly what Tanaka would want.
