📖 SYNOPSIS
Best friends since childhood, Chocolat and Vanilla find their bond put to the ultimate test when they're both picked as candidates to become the next queen of the Magical World, the catch being they have to compete against each other. Chocolat Meilleure and Vanilla Mieux are sent to the Human World to collect hearts — literally crystallized human emotions — and whoever gathers the most wins the throne. Chocolat's loud and bold, Vanilla's quiet and sweet, and watching their friendship hold up under what's essentially a rivalry is the real draw here. This ONA is a 20th anniversary short from Studio Khara, revisiting Moyoco Anno's manga with a visual style that blends classic shoujo charm with modern polish. The heart-collecting mechanic is genuinely clever — different emotions produce different colored crystals, so there's actual depth to what could've been a simple "catch 'em all" setup. The whole thing has this warm, whimsical energy that doesn't overstay its welcome at just one episode. If you grew up on Cardcaptor Sakura or Ojamajo Doremi, this hits a similar sweet spot of magical girl adventures grounded in real emotional stakes between characters you care about. Fans of Shugo Chara will also recognize that blend of identity questions wrapped in sparkly transformation sequences. Whether you know the original series or not, it's a nice, self-contained bit of magical girl storytelling that earns its emotions honestly.
