Style of Hiroshi Nohara's Lunch
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Everyone's favorite perpetually exhausted dad from Shin-chan, Hiroshi Nohara, finally gets his own 12-episode TV series, and it's entirely about how he picks what to eat for lunch. That's the whole premise. And it works way better than it has any right to. Each episode follows Hiroshi navigating the deeply mundane battlefield of a salaryman's midday break: a tight budget, a ticking clock, coworkers who expect him to pay, and the eternal internal debate between the ramen place near the office and the slightly cheaper bento from the convenience store. He weighs his options with the seriousness of a general planning a campaign, drops random cooking trivia, and occasionally just vents about his boss while chewing rice. The comedy is quiet and dry — less slapstick Shin-chan chaos, more the resigned humor of a guy who's been working too long and just wants his lunch to go right for once. If you've watched Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman or Wakako-zake, you already know the vibe: one person, one meal, and a surprising amount of emotional weight packed into something as simple as choosing a side dish. It's comfort food anime in the most literal sense. Studio DLE keeps things visually simple, which fits the low-key tone perfectly. If you've ever agonized over where to eat on a 45-minute break, Hiroshi gets you.
