Sore Ike! Anpanman
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Picture a hero whose head is literally made of bread, flying around helping hungry people by letting them eat pieces of his face. That's not a fever dream — that's Anpanman, and it's been running since 1988. In a cozy forest bakery, a Star of Life falls down the chimney one night and brings a lump of dough to life. That dough becomes Anpanman, a hero made of anpan (sweet bean jam bread), who dedicates himself to feeding the hungry and protecting the weak. His nemesis is Baikinman, a germ-themed villain who constantly schemes to cause trouble, and his allies include Currypanman, Shokupanman, and Melonpanna — all food-themed characters with their own quirks and abilities. The whole world runs on this food logic, and it just works. The vibe is gentle, comedic, and surprisingly heartfelt. Every episode circles back to kindness, sharing, and standing up for others, delivered without being preachy about it. It's comfort viewing in its purest form. If you grew up with Fighting Foodons and liked the food-character concept but wanted something warmer, this is that show perfected. Fans of the wholesome energy in Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon or the simple good-vs-evil charm of Pretty Cure Splash Star will feel right at home. It's a kids' TV series through and through, but there's a reason it holds the Guinness record for most characters in an animated franchise. The creativity never runs dry.
