馃摉 SYNOPSIS
"Smart-san" is set in the 1920s and follows the story of Benio, a high-spirited and athletic young woman with a strong will. She encounters Shinobu, a handsome soldier of mixed German and Japanese heritage, and initially dislikes him despite his assistance in several embarrassing situations. Benio is shocked to learn that she is betrothed to Shinobu through an arranged marriage.
The narrative explores Benio's struggle with the concept of marriage and her attempts to integrate into her future in-laws' and employer's lives. Shinobu's impending participation in the war adds another layer of complexity to their relationship. The story is further enriched by the historical context of the era, with the looming threat of the great Kanto earthquake casting a shadow over the characters' lives and the future of Japan.
