π SYNOPSIS
A tired, middle-aged salaryman buys a pet bird to feel less lonely. The bird turns out to be a reincarnated sage from a fantasy world. That's the setup for Sasaki and Peeps, and season 2 picks up right where things left off.
Sasaki is just a regular office worker β no special destiny, no chosen one backstory. He adopts a Java sparrow he calls Pii-chan, who casually reveals he's actually Piercarlo, a legendary sage reborn in bird form. Piercarlo gives Sasaki magic and the ability to hop between modern Japan and a medieval fantasy realm. Instead of becoming a hero, Sasaki does what any practical adult would do: he starts a cross-world trading business, buying cheap goods in Japan and selling them in the other world for profit. The man just wants a comfortable life.
The comedy here comes from how grounded Sasaki is despite everything getting increasingly chaotic around him. Psychics, secret organizations, and magical factions all start circling, and he's just trying to make a living with his bird. The dynamic between a middle-aged guy and a tiny, all-knowing sparrow never stops being funny.
If you liked the dual-world hustle in The Devil Is a Part-Timer or the comedic isekai energy of Konosuba, this scratches a similar itch but with a distinctly adult protagonist who's too tired for dramatic speeches. SILVER LINK. is handling production again for this 2026 TV series. Worth your time if you want isekai that's clever without trying too hard.
