📖 SYNOPSIS
Sasaki is a solitary middle-aged salaryman who buys a pet bird to ease his solitude, only for the bird to turn out to be a reincarnated sage from a fantasy world. That's the setup for Sasaki and Peeps, a 2024 TV series that somehow juggles isekai trading, government espionage, and a man's genuine affection for his Java sparrow.
Sasaki's life is about as exciting as you'd expect for a middle-aged corporate drone — until Pii-chan starts talking and offers him magic powers, including the ability to hop between worlds. Sasaki, being a practical guy, immediately starts importing modern goods to sell in the fantasy world for profit. He's not trying to be a hero; he just wants a comfortable retirement. But things escalate quickly when a government agent from his own world notices his unusual activities and pulls him into a secret organization tracking people with supernatural abilities.
The dynamic between Sasaki and Pii-chan carries the whole thing. There's something genuinely funny about a middle-aged man respectfully consulting a tiny bird who speaks like an ancient wizard. The show doesn't take itself too seriously, leaning into the absurdity of its premise while keeping Sasaki grounded as a protagonist. If you liked the mundane-meets-magical vibe of The Devil Is a Part-Timer or the comedic isekai energy of Konosuba, this hits a similar frequency — just with a more laid-back, adult protagonist who'd rather run a side hustle than save the world. Twelve episodes, easy watch, surprisingly charming.
