As episode one of fifty, this is purely setup — the assembly of the Sanzo party and the premise driving their mission west. Everything here exists to establish the group dynamics and world rules that the entire season will build upon. Subsequent episodes will shift into a road-trip structure, throwing escalating threats and deeper character backstories at this newly formed group.
