Synopsis

Blessed with the ability to rewrite his own body — literally enhance any physical trait permanently — Kotarou Tennouji mostly uses this power to goof around. He's a nosey high schooler in Kazamatsuri, a city practically drowning in greenery and old Japanese charm, where he spends his days pestering his delinquent buddy Haruhiko and crushing on the eccentric Kotori. Then he stumbles into the school's Occult Research Club, led by the mysterious Akane Senri, and suddenly his comfortable routine starts cracking at the edges. The club fills out with a clumsy transfer student, a stern class rep, and a quiet girl who barely speaks, and together they start poking at the city's supernatural underbelly. What begins as lighthearted ghost-hunting between friends gradually reveals that everyone in this group is hiding something, and the city itself has secrets buried deep. The first half of this 13-episode TV series leans into comedy and slice-of-life warmth, but there's a persistent unease underneath that keeps building. If you liked the way Clannad slowly peeled back its characters or how Angel Beats! mixed school comedy with heavier themes, this hits a similar nerve. It's adapted from a visual novel by the same creators behind those stories, and you can feel the branching-route DNA in how each girl carries her own mystery. The soundtrack by Yoshino Nanjo and others does a lot of heavy lifting emotionally. Fair warning though — this season is more setup than payoff, with Steins;Gate-style patience required before things click into place.

There were so many parts that got skipped, even some of the fights happened off-screen. It was emotional but because there are too many things left unexplained, I still couldn't fully connect with the characters...

If only they adapted this show with more episodes and be more faithful to the original game source, I’m sure the result would’ve been much better than this.

That was dark... I can't believe I actually ended up sympathizing with that blonde guy, Midou. Because he was really annoying since Kotarou first met him.

The battle between all of the factions fighting over the "Key" was intense too. With how chaotic and desperate everything started to feel near the end, I believe the next episode will be amazing.

Wholesome interactions between the heroines, a bit of fan service, and more details about the story finally being revealed.

Honestly, this episode wasn't that bad, but one issue that has been present from the beginning of this show is how they keep rushing things. I feel like Akane's backstory and the explanation about the Gaia organization were way too short and made the episode pacing feels a bit off.
