Re: Cutie Honey
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Don't let the office attire fool you — Honey Kisaragi is actually an android built by her late father with the ability to transform into the sword-swinging warrior Cutie Honey. Her mission: take down Panther Claw, the shadowy organization that killed him. Standing somewhere between ally and obstacle is Inspector Natsuko Aki, a by-the-book cop who can't decide if Honey is part of the problem or the only real solution. This is a 3-episode OVA from 2004, and it's a joint effort between Gainax and Toei Animation — which means the animation is wild, colorful, and constantly in motion. The transformation sequences alone are worth watching, dripping with style and energy that feels like a love letter to classic magical girl shows while cranking everything up to absurd levels. The tone is firmly action-comedy with a heavy dose of ecchi, so know what you're getting into. If you liked Kill la Kill's over-the-top transformation battles and irreverent humor, this is basically one of its spiritual predecessors. Fans of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt will also feel right at home with the comedic pacing and shameless attitude. It's short enough to finish in one sitting, and the soundtrack is genuinely catchy. The dynamic between Honey and Natsuko carries more heart than you'd expect from something this chaotic, and Sister Jill makes for a memorable villain even across just three episodes.
