Quanneng Gaoshou
Oshimeter
Synopsis
After growing up in the wilderness under five grandparents who each happen to be absolute masters of their craft, our protagonist returns to the city with one goal: figure out who killed his parents. The catch is he's basically a genius at everything — martial arts, medicine, cooking, music, chess — but he pretends to be completely unremarkable. That's the setup for Quanneng Gaoshou, a 20-episode ONA where the fun is watching this guy strategically play dumb while slowly peeling back layers of a family conspiracy. The early episodes lean into the contrast between his hidden abilities and how everyone around him underestimates him. He's navigating a modern urban world full of power players and rival factions, picking his moments to reveal just enough skill to stay alive and keep digging. There's a decent balance of action sequences and quieter scheming, with some humor baked in when his ridiculous competence slips through the cracks of his cover. If you liked the "secretly overpowered protagonist in a competitive world" angle from The King's Avatar, or the revenge-driven martial arts escalation of Martial Universe, this hits similar notes but in a contemporary city setting rather than a fantasy realm. It's adapted from a web novel, so the pacing has that chapter-by-chapter reveal structure — each episode drops a new piece of the mystery or a new skill flex. Nothing groundbreaking, but it knows what it is and commits to it.
