Synopsis

Released in 1984, before hentai OVAs became a whole industry, this two-episode release was one of the first to kick the door open. 'Original Video Romance Animation' is a comedic adult OVA where the main characters are named after two of Japan's biggest pop idols at the time — Seiko Matsuda in the first episode and Akina Nakamori in the second. It's a cheeky wink at 1980s Japanese pop culture, wrapping risqué situations in a lighthearted, playful tone rather than anything heavy or dramatic. Think less scandalous, more goofy and irreverent. The comedy is front and center, and the adult content feels more like part of the joke than the whole point. Each episode runs independently, following its named character through humorous, raunchy situations that are pretty tame by modern standards but were genuinely boundary-pushing for the time. If you've watched something like 'Nozo x Kimi' and wanted something older and more comedic in spirit, or if 'My Dear Marie' gave you that nostalgic, slightly awkward early-OVA feeling, this sits in that same era. It's genuinely more interesting as a historical artifact than as a shocking watch — the novelty is understanding what early adult animation looked like before the genre had any real rules. Worth checking out if you're curious about where this corner of anime came from.
