Ninja Hattori-kun
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Meet Kenichi — a pretty average 11-year-old kid dealing with school, homework, and all the usual stuff — until a ninja from the Iga mountains shows up at his house and decides to stay. Kanzo Hattori isn't some legendary warrior on a grand mission, though. He just wants to go to regular school and live a normal life. The problem is, he's a ninja, and "normal" isn't really in his skill set. Along with his little brother Shinzo and their ninja dog Shishimaru, Hattori moves in with Kenichi's family and starts helping him navigate everyday problems the only way he knows how — with ninja techniques, which almost always makes things worse before they get better. There's also Kemumaki, a rival ninja from the Koga clan, who shows up with his shadow-cat Kagechiyo to cause trouble whenever things start going too smoothly. The whole thing runs on this simple loop of Kenichi having a problem, Hattori trying to fix it with stealth and shuriken, and chaos following. If you grew up watching Doraemon, this hits a very similar frequency — a kid with a supernatural buddy solving problems in the most roundabout ways possible. Fans of Perman or Nintama Rantarou will also feel right at home here. It's 694 episodes of pure comedic comfort from Shin-Ei Animation, the same studio behind Doraemon, and it never really tries to be anything more than a good time with likable characters. Sometimes that's exactly what you need.
