Nezumi-kun no Chokki (TV)
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When a little mouse receives a hand-knit vest as a gift, he's pretty proud of it. Then one by one, bigger animals come along wanting to try it on. You can probably guess where this is going — the vest stretches, and stretches, and stretches some more. Based on the beloved Japanese picture book series by Netsuke Seno that's been a staple of early childhood reading since the 1970s, Nezumi-kun no Chokki is finally getting a TV anime adaptation in 2026. The charm here is in the repetition and escalation — each new animal is bigger than the last, and little Nezumi-kun watches his precious vest get increasingly distorted. It's simple, it's gentle, and for the target audience of young kids, the predictable-yet-funny pattern is exactly the kind of thing that works. Think of it like the anime equivalent of a picture book you read to a toddler ten times in a row because they keep asking for it again. If your kid enjoyed something like Rilakkuma and Kaoru for its cozy pacing, or if they're into anthropomorphic animal stories like Bananya, this fits right into that lane. The fantasy and anthropomorphic elements keep things light and imaginative. It's not trying to be anything more than a warm, charming little show about a mouse and his vest, and honestly, that's enough.
