Murai in Love
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Meet Chisato Murai — a perfectly normal high school student with one not-so-normal life goal: marry his homeroom teacher. When he boldly declares this as his post-graduation plan, Ms. Tanaka shuts him down without a second thought. But here's the thing — it's not just that he's her student. Tanaka is secretly a hardcore otome game addict, completely devoted to a fictional pretty boy named Hitotose. She has zero interest in real guys when 2D perfection exists. So what does Murai do? He cuts his hair, overhauls his whole look, and shows up the next day cosplaying as her favorite game character. In real life. At school. This 12-episode ONA from J.C.Staff leans hard into gag humor and otaku culture, with intentionally over-the-top animation that lands its comedy beats well. The dynamic between a lovestruck student trying increasingly absurd tactics and a teacher who keeps retreating into her fictional comfort zone is genuinely funny, and there's a surprising amount of warmth underneath the jokes about the gap between fantasy ideals and messy real-world feelings. If you liked the comedic romantic chess matches in Kaguya-sama: Love is War or the age-gap awkwardness of Koikimo, this hits a similar sweet spot — lighter and goofier than either, but with its own charm. The episodes are short, the vibe is breezy, and the soundtrack is catchier than it has any right to be. A good palate cleanser between heavier watches.
