Maze: The Mega-Burst Space OVA
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Maze finds herself in a fantasy world with no memory, no context, and a princess hiding under the wreckage of her house — a situation that sets the tone for everything that follows in this two-episode OVA from J.C.Staff. That last part is accidental, but it sets the tone for everything that follows in this two-episode OVA from J.C.Staff. Maze has magical powers and can even summon a giant mecha called Dulgar, which would be straightforwardly cool if not for one complication: every night she transforms into a man with a completely different personality — aggressive, magically stronger, and significantly less interested in heroics than in flirting with anything nearby. Meanwhile, the princess she accidentally saved, Mill, is on the run from a dangerous religious organization that wants her back, so the two of them are stuck together whether they like it or not. The whole thing leans hard into comedy, using the gender-swap premise less for drama and more for awkward situations and character friction. If you liked El-Hazard: The Magnificent World or The Vision of Escaflowne — that late-90s isekai-flavored fantasy vibe with a girl dropped into another world — this hits a similar note, though with a goofier edge. It is not a deep watch. At two episodes, it is closer to a fun curiosity from a period when isekai and mecha were constantly being mashed together in interesting ways. Worth an afternoon if you appreciate that era of anime and want something light that does not take itself seriously.
