Masuda Kousuke Gekijou: Gag Manga Biyori
Oshimeter
Synopsis
The actual historical figure Prince Shotoku Taishi is trying to do important princely things, except nothing goes the way it should. That's about as much plot as Gag Manga Biyori ever commits to, and honestly, that's the point. Each of the 12 episodes runs about five minutes and tells a completely standalone story built around one absurd premise that escalates until it collapses under its own nonsense. Historical figures, monks, random characters with no business being in the same scene — they all show up, do something deeply weird, and then it's over. There's no continuity to track, no arc to follow. You just drop in, watch something bizarre unfold, and move on with your life. The humor is dry and surreal in a way that feels closer to Cromartie High School or Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo than anything trying to tell an actual story. If you liked the deadpan absurdism of Cromartie or the anything-goes chaos of Bobobo, this operates in similar territory, just compressed into bite-sized chunks. The animation leans into the weirdness with exaggerated expressions and timing that commits fully to every strange bit. It's the kind of show where the joke is often that there is no joke — just escalating strangeness delivered with complete sincerity. Good for when you have five minutes, no patience for plot, and a tolerance for humor that refuses to explain itself.
