Marriage of God & Soul Godannar!!
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Goh Saruwatari finally gets to marry the woman he loves — right as the aliens show up to ruin his wedding — and that's just the beginning. That's the setup for Godannar, a 13-episode TV series from 2003 that commits fully to its ridiculous, charming premise. Anna, Goh's new bride, stumbles onto a secret robot during the chaos, the two mechs combine, and suddenly their honeymoon is indefinitely postponed by an ongoing alien invasion. The show leans hard into the contrast between domestic married life and giant robot combat, and that tension is where most of the humor and heart comes from. It's not shy about its ecchi elements either, so go in knowing that — the character designs are very much a product of their era. The mecha action itself is loud and earnest, closer to classic super robot energy than the psychological weight of something like Neon Genesis Evangelion. If you liked Gurren Lagann's enthusiasm for combining robots and over-the-top battles, or the relationship drama woven into Macross Frontier, Godannar scratches a similar itch with a more comedic domestic spin. It's a short watch, the animation has genuine personality, and the soundtrack does real work during both the fights and the quieter moments between Goh and Anna. Worth your time if you want something romantic and goofy without taking itself too seriously.
