Mahoromatic End Year Special
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Before she ever touched a mop, Mahoro Andou spent years as one of the most powerful combat androids on Earth, fighting alien threats for a secret organization. Now, with her operational lifespan ticking down, she trades the battlefield for an apron and becomes the live-in maid for Suguru Misato, a high school kid living alone after losing his parents. The gap between 'elite killing machine' and 'someone who folds laundry and cooks breakfast' is where most of the charm lives. This end-of-year TV special is essentially a recap episode — a one-episode breather that revisits the setup and early character dynamics before the series continues. It is not the place to start, but if you have already met Mahoro, Suguru, and the gloriously unhinged teacher Shikijo, it is a low-key way to spend an evening revisiting what works about the show. The tone is warm and a little absurd, with occasional reminders that there are genuine sci-fi stakes underneath the domestic comedy. If you liked Steel Angel Kurumi or Hand Maid May, the android-living-with-a-teenager premise will feel familiar but Mahoromatic leans harder into the bittersweet undercurrent. Gainax and Shaft handling the animation gives it a visual polish that holds up. Think of this special as a palette cleanser rather than a main course — comfortable, relaxed, and best appreciated if you already care about the characters.
