Lucky☆Star OVA
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Given the choice between grinding MMORPGs and studying, Konata Izumi picks the MMO every time, constantly dragging her long-suffering friend Kagami into the chaos. If you've already watched the Lucky Star TV series and want one more dose of these four girls being ridiculous together, this OVA from Kyoto Animation delivers exactly that — six short stories that range from mundane school banter to genuinely surreal territory. One segment drops the whole crew into an MMORPG, complete with Konata treating it way too seriously and their teacher joining the party. Another has Kagami dealing with a dream about Konata that she'd really rather not talk about. The vignettes bounce between grounded slice-of-life comedy and moments where things get intentionally weird, which is kind of the Lucky Star formula distilled into a single episode. The humor leans heavily on meta-references, anime culture jokes, and the contrast between Konata's otaku brain and everyone else trying to be normal. If you liked the everyday absurdity of Azumanga Daioh or the character-driven comedy in Nichijou, this hits a similar frequency — though it's more niche and self-aware about its otaku audience. It's not a starting point for the franchise; you'd want to watch the main series first so the character dynamics actually land. But as a bonus episode for fans, it captures what made the original work: familiar characters hanging out, riffing on each other, and occasionally veering into something you didn't see coming.
