Synopsis
In a near-future city where law enforcement has a certain... flexibility to it, Officer Aiko navigates her role as part of an elite unit. She's partnered with the enigmatic Detective Ryo, and together they're investigating a string of incidents stirring up trouble beneath the city's polished surface. What starts as a crime procedural setup quickly reveals itself to be something warmer and more personal between the two leads — the case is almost secondary to watching their dynamic unfold. Based on a manga by Himuro Serika and part of the Secret Anima series, this 1998 single-episode OVA from Ripple Film keeps things moving at a tight pace since it only has one episode to work with. The animation holds up reasonably well for its era, and the blend of crime-thriller atmosphere with the relationship between Aiko and Ryo gives it more texture than you'd typically expect from a release like this. If you've explored older adult OVAs like Cream Lemon or La Blue Girl and appreciate when they at least attempt a story framework around everything, this scratches a similar itch. It's not reinventing anything, but it commits to its near-future setting and uses the investigative premise as genuine connective tissue rather than just backdrop. Short, direct, and with a bit more narrative investment than the runtime would suggest — worth a look if you're already browsing that corner of late-90s anime.
