Synopsis
When it came to her vampire family, Karin Maaka got the short end of the coffin. Instead of draining blood from humans, she produces too much of it — and when it builds up, she gets lightheaded, dizzy, and eventually has explosive nosebleeds in the middle of class. Her solution is to bite humans and transfer the excess blood back into them, which accidentally makes them feel happier. It's a genuinely clever twist on vampire lore, and the show leans into how awkward and embarrassing Karin's situation is rather than playing it cool or mysterious. Then a perceptive new transfer student named Kenta Usui starts noticing that something is very off about her, and things get complicated. The whole 24-episode series from J.C.Staff is really about Karin trying to keep her secret while navigating high school, her eccentric vampire family, and an increasingly tangled relationship with Kenta. The tone is warm and comedic — think Fruits Basket if it leaned harder into the comedy and kept things lighter overall. If you liked Toradora! for its slow-burn romance between two people who are both kind of a mess, there's a similar dynamic here. It's not trying to be Vampire Knight — there's no brooding or gothic drama. It's just a soft, romantic story about a girl who happens to have a very inconvenient blood problem.
