📖 SYNOPSIS

Imagine a squad of girls whose voices can literally kill monsters—that's all in a day's work. That's the core of Kamitsubaki City Under Construction, but there's more going on under the surface than that pitch suggests. Seven years after a catastrophic disaster wiped out most of civilization, Kamitsubaki City has risen as a gleaming hub of science and recovery. The catch is that the city breeds its own nightmares—Tesseractors, creatures spawned from human darkness and desire that threaten everything people have rebuilt. The only defense? The Witchling, five young women whose voices carry literal magical force. Kaf Morisaki, a bold girl from the city's District Zero, leads the charge alongside her fellow singers, weaponizing melodies against these supernatural threats. The setting is a cool blend of sleek futurism and urban fantasy, where neon-lit streets coexist with arcane horrors. If you liked the music-as-weapon concept in Symphogear or the idol-meets-mecha energy of Macross Frontier, this is in that lineage but with its own flavor—the soundtrack features performances from KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO's virtual artists, which gives the musical sequences a distinct identity. There's also a Madoka Magica-adjacent tension where you can feel the story hinting that the bright exterior might not hold. It's a 12-episode TV series, so it won't eat your whole week. Worth checking out if post-apocalyptic magical girl combat set to original music sounds like your thing.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You dig music-as-magic concepts — the Witchlings literally sing to fight Tesseractor monsters
Post-apocalyptic rebuilding stories with a hopeful tone hit your sweet spot
Creative character designs matter more to you than fluid animation quality
You're already into the Kamitsubaki Project's virtual artists and want their anime expansion

❌ SKIP IF...

Stiff 3D animation from Shogakukan Music & Digital Entertainment is a dealbreaker for you
You need deep character arcs — the five Witchlings stay pretty surface-level across 12 episodes
Slow pacing with low dramatic tension frustrates you — this season rarely builds urgency
