Idol of Darkness
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Everything Ikumi Murase has built points to the kind of career every aspiring idol dreams of — packed concerts, a growing fanbase, film roles coming in. The only cracks in that picture are personal: her boyfriend can't quite handle being with someone more famous than him, and her costar Rie is quietly seething with jealousy behind the scenes. Then Rie finds a wooden idol in an abandoned temple during a location shoot, and things take a sharp left turn into supernatural horror territory. She summons a demon. It targets Ikumi. The idol industry backstabbing you expected suddenly has fangs. This 1997 OVA from PP Project leans hard into that late-90s aesthetic — the flat shading, the character designs, the overall visual texture of that era — which gives it a specific kind of atmosphere that either pulls you in or it doesn't. It's a single-episode watch built around jealousy, ambition, and mythology colliding inside the entertainment world. If you've seen Injuu Nerawareta Hanayome and enjoyed how that series mixes supernatural threat with personal drama, this covers similar ground. It also scratches a similar itch to Key: The Metal Idol if you're drawn to stories where the idol industry itself becomes a kind of predatory environment. Just know going in that this is a hentai OVA, so the horror and the explicit content are woven together rather than separate. Fair warning, and fair context.
