Daphne in the Brilliant Blue OVA
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Most of Earth is underwater, and these bonus episodes are honestly just here to have fun with the premise. These specials slot into the middle of the main Daphne in the Brilliant Blue series, which follows Maia Mizuki, a 15-year-old who failed her dream exam, got evicted, pickpocketed, taken hostage, and shot all in the same day. She ends up joining the Nereids, a scrappy all-female outfit that takes on odd jobs ranging from chasing criminals to retrieving lost pets in a flooded world. The specials lean hard into the comedy side of that setup — think less action, more the cast bouncing off each other in deliberately ridiculous situations. One episode is literally titled 'Everything you always wanted to know about Nereids but were afraid to ask,' which tells you the vibe immediately. If you watched Burst Angel or Najica Blitz Tactics and appreciated the female-led action-comedy format but wanted something looser and more self-aware, these deliver that. They're not trying to move the plot forward. They're the show taking a breath and goofing around with characters you've already spent time with. Two episodes, light commitment, J.C.Staff production from 2004 — watch the main series first, then let these serve as a palate cleanser between the heavier stretches.
