Synopsis

Without any formal training and with no clear explanation for how he knows what he knows, Yuu Kananase is a regular high school kid who just has the instincts to pilot a giant mecha. Not theoretically — he actually has the instincts for it. That's enough to get him flagged by an international military organization and thrown into a test pilot program for a new mobile armor called Ordian. The catch is he's not the only candidate. His classmate Nanna is in the running too, and the competition between recruits is as much the story as any robot fight. The show is set in a future where military tech has outpaced the ethics surrounding it, and that tension quietly runs through everything. This isn't a series where the mecha battles are just spectacle — the focus stays on the characters, their pressures, and what it actually means to hand weapons to teenagers and call it a program. Directed by Masami Obari, who has a strong eye for mecha design and action, the series carries a serious, introspective tone rather than going for flashy shonen energy. If you gravitated toward the psychological weight of Neon Genesis Evangelion or the quieter character work in RahXephon, Ordian sits in similar territory. It's a 24-episode TV series from 2000 that tends to fly under the radar, but if you're into mecha that takes its premise seriously rather than just being an excuse for cool robots, it's worth your time.
